Welcome to my guide for beginners to JasX games and setting up an outfit!

This guide will walk you through setting up your RLV clothing folders. You only need to do this once per outfit, and once you’ve done it once, setting up new outfits will be much easier.

How JasX Handles Clothing

During JasX games, there are usually three clothing states, or four if you use a strap-on:

  • Dressed
  • Underwear
  • Naked

A fun outfit takes advantage of all three states, so think about what you want to add or remove as you move between them.

Below is a quick-start guide, followed by a more detailed walkthrough with an example outfit.
You’ll also find a guide further down on setting up outfit groups, which were introduced with JasX HUD 0.5.8.

Quickstart

The folder layout should look like the image to the left, with the letters capitalized exactly as shown:

#RLV → JasX → Outfit Name → The four states of clothing → The five parts of clothing
“Sporty” is the name of my outfit in the example. You can name your outfits whatever you like.

In each folder, copy your items as links into the folder that corresponds to what you want to wear at that point. Only add the items you want to wear. Nothing else.

Items in these folders are automatically added or removed as you move between clothing states.
For example, your body would normally never be added to these folders unless you specifically want to swap it during a game.

Here are a couple of examples of how this works:

Example 1: Shoes and Socks

  • Dressed → Boots: Put both the shoes and socks here.
  • Underwear → Boots: Put only the socks here.
  • Bits → Boots: Leave both out.

Example 2: Layering Pants, Thong, and Parts

This is useful if you wear pants when dressed but leave the thong off to avoid clipping issues, then want the thong to appear in the underwear state and your private parts to appear in the naked state.

  • Dressed → Crotch: Put only the pants here.
  • Underwear → Crotch: Put only the thong here.
  • Bits → Crotch: Put only your private parts here.

DETAILED OUTFIT GUIDE

For this example, I’m going to set up the outfit pictured to the right. It’s an urban and sports-themed outfit that makes use of all three clothing states:

  • Dressed: Jacket, pants, shoes, bracelets, and hat. The sports bra is visible through the jacket, with a little bit of the thong showing.
  • Underwear: The jacket and pants come off, leaving the sports bra, thong, hat, socks, and one bracelet.
  • Naked: Everything comes off, including the hat. This is done with a little trick that changes the hairstyle when switching to this state.

Using the Second Life Outfit window to save your outfit first is a great way to see exactly what you’re wearing and speed up the process.

On the left is my full outfit as shown in the inventory window.

The colored lines show items I won’t copy into my JasX outfit folder. The JasX folders only need items that the HUD needs to attach and detach automatically. Everything else stays out.

  • Red: My mesh body and head, default system layers, shape, and physics.
  • Purple: A clothing item I never want detached. In my case, my favorite choker.

FOLDER SETUP

Click through the slides below and follow the instructions for creating the initial folders for your outfit.
IMPORTANT: Name the folders EXACTLY as shown in the slides to the right. Make sure you match the capitalization precisely where shown, as the JasX HUD relies on these folder names.

OUTFIT SETUP

IIMPORTANT: Only copy the items you want JasX to automatically add or remove. DO NOT copy your mesh body, head, hair, etc., unless you specifically want to swap them during the game.

The items must be LINKS, not copies.

  • From your Second Life Outfits folder, paste normally and it will automatically create a link.
  • From regular Inventory folders, right-click the JasX folder and select “Paste as Link”.

You can check this by looking at the end of the item’s name. Links will always show (link).

Now let’s set up the actual JasX outfit. We’ll start with the Dressed folder, which contains everything you want to wear when the game begins.

  1. Open Dressed, then open the first folder, Arms.
  2. Follow the slides below to start moving your items.

Now we need to set up the Underwear folder, and we will only copy links that we want to wear while in the underwear state.

Open your Underwear – Arms folder.

Last state and the easiest, Bits, also known as naked! This will be where all your private parts go in.

Open your Underwear and Bits folders.

And that’s it! Your outfit is done!

Oh! …but what about that Strapon folder?

As the name suggests, this is where you put a strap-on or any other adult attachments you want to be automatically worn when a “moment” calls for it.

The Strapon folder has the same subfolders as the others, so just copy your attachments as links into whichever folder makes sense for when you want them worn.

SELECT OUTFIT

Now that your outfit is set up, it’s time to use the JasX HUD again.

Go to the HUD tab by clicking the top-left blue heart button, then select your outfit on the right side of the screen.

If you don’t see your outfit listed, just hit Refresh.

TEST OUTFIT

Now to test if it actually works. Click the buttons as displayed below and see if your outfit changes as expected.

OUTFIT GROUPS

With JasX HUD 0.5.8 and later, you can also create outfit groups.
This lets you set up different avatar bodies, each with their own outfits. For example, below I’m setting up two different looks: my Human look and my Ghost look.

That’s it!

If your outfit isn’t working quite right, double-check these common culprits:

  • RLV is turned off: Make sure it’s enabled in your viewer preferences.
  • Folder names or structure: Make sure everything matches the required names and structure exactly.
  • Wrong outfit selected: Double-check that the correct outfit is selected in your HUD.

EXTRA

These are chat commands that you can use to quickly switch between outfits, test them, and change your settings.
You can say them either in local chat or on channel 1.

Change Outfit
jasx.setoutfit <outfit name>

Example:
/1 jasx.setoutfit sporty

Change Outfit with Group (JasX HUD 0.5.8 and later)
jasx.setoutfit <group>/<outfit>

Example:
/1 jasx.setoutfit +Human/Cargo String

Set Clothes State (Dressed, Underwear, Bits)
jasx.setclothes <state>

Example:
/1 jasx.setclothes bits

Attach or detach your Strapon folder.
jasx.setstrapon <1/0>

Example:
/1 jasx.setstrapon 1

Set sex
Sex is a number combination: 1 = penis, 2 = vag, 4 = breasts. 
Simply add together the ones you want to use. So 1 = male (penis), 6 = female (vag/breasts)

Example:
/1 jasx.sex 6
