Alternatively, you can always host your own game!
Check out our Fright Hosting Guide for more information on how to get that set up.
Joining a Match
Once you have found a game, simply click the TOME (pictured) to automatically join. You will know it worked when your surroundings get dark and your flashlight automatically attaches!
Depending on the map you are playing, the TOME might look like a book, a computer screen, or a sci-fi terminal, but the hover text above it will always look similar.

SETTINGS
When you first attach the HUD, you will want to tweak a few settings to make sure everything works exactly the way you want. Just click the Settings option on your HUD to configure these:
- Toggle Penis/Vagina: Set this to match the parts you have. (The JasX HUD should automatically set these for you)
- Toggle Adult: Turn this on if you want to allow adult animations and traps during gameplay.
- Toggle Escape: If another player catches you, this setting determines whether you can try to break free or if you have to wait for them to end the capture.
- Website: This will open up the official Fright website in your browser.

YOUR HUD EXPLAINED
Here is a breakdown of what every indicator, bar, and button on your Fright HUD means so you can keep track of the action:
- Protection Level: This shows your current status and how easy it is for others to grab you:
- Protected: No one can catch you unless they are the Hunter or use a specific prop.
- Partially Protected: You have lost some clothing, but the same rules as above still apply.
- Vulnerable: Watch out! Anyone can catch you now, even without needing a prop.
- Flashlight: Displays your currently equipped flashlight. You can also click this icon to quickly toggle your light on or off.
- Prop / Amount of Uses: Shows the item you are currently holding and how many times you can use it before it breaks.
- Settings: Opens the menu to configure your adult, anatomy, and escape preferences.
- Trapped: When this bar is active, you are completely immobilized. This happens while you are catching someone, if you get caught yourself, or if you accidentally step into a trap.
- Invulnerable: A temporary safety state where no one can catch you. This usually triggers right after you escape a trap or stand back up after being caught.
- Prop Cooldown: A timer bar showing how long you have to wait before you can activate your current prop again.
- Premium Prop Cooldown: A separate timer that restricts how quickly you can chain multiple premium props together.
- Stamina: Your energy bar. This dictates exactly how long you can run before needing a breather.
- Hunter Eyes: You are the hunter! You can catch anyone without needing a prop, and you gain red night vision to help you sneak up on your targets.
- End Pounce: Once you have caught someone and your “Trapped” bar finishes, this button will appear. Click it whenever you are ready to let your target go free!
CONTROLS

Controls & Movement
Fright can be played in either third-person or mouselook, though mouselook is highly recommended for the best experience! Here are the default keys you will need to navigate the dark:
- WASD (Move Keys): Normal moving around. Double-tapping W will make you run, but keep an eye on your stamina bar!
- F (Flashlight): Quickly turns your flashlight on and off.
- G (Standard Prop): If you are currently carrying a standard prop, press this to activate it.
- Q (Premium Prop): If you have a premium prop equipped, this key will activate it.
- E (Action): Your main interaction key. Use this to:
- Open doors
- Pick up props
- Interact with items around the map
- Catch a player who is vulnerable
GAME MODES
Depending on the type of game being hosted, your objective will change. Here are the different ways you can play:
- Scavenger Mode: A treasure will spawn at a random location on the map. Find it and safely bring it back to the TOME to win!
- Hunter Mode: Just like Scavenger Mode, but one specific player is designated as the Hunter. This person can catch anyone on sight without needing props or waiting for defenses to drop.
- Hunter Tag: Similar to Scavenger and Hunter Mode, but if the Hunter catches you, you become the new Hunter. It is essentially a spooky game of Tag!
- King of the Hill: Find the treasure and hold onto it for as long as possible. The player who accumulates the most time holding it before the game ends wins.
- Pouncematch: A total free-for-all! Try to catch as many people as you can within a 10-minute time limit. Whoever has the most catches when the clock runs out wins.
- Outbreak: One player starts as the initial Hunter. Every time they catch someone, that player infects them, turning them into a Hunter too. The last survivor left standing wins!
GAMEPLAY

Understanding Protection
Your Protection Level dictates how safe you are from being caught by other players. Think of it like armor:
- Full & Partial Protection: You are safe from normal players. Someone must either be the Hunter or use a specific prop to catch you.
- No Protection: You are completely vulnerable, meaning absolutely anyone can catch you. A broken shield icon will appear above your head to let others know you have no defenses left.
- Losing Protection: You can lose your protection by getting caught, stepping into traps, or interacting with certain map elements.
- Outfits: If you set up your outfit folders correctly, your protection level will be visually represented by how much clothing your avatar is currently wearing!

Games can be played on several different maps. It can take a little time to get used to the layouts and layouts without getting lost, so take your time to explore!
