Welcome to the guide on how to play the JasX game, Fright.

Fright is a spooky game where you roam around in the dark, trying to find treasure while avoiding or pouncing other players. With different maps, props to use and traps to avoid, it is always a frightening experience.

This guide will go into extreme detail on how to get setup with Fright and how to actually play the game, with a few tips and tricks.

REQUIREMENTS

You will need the following:

Graphics (Recommended, not required)

Fright’s gameplay consists of using flashlights to navigate the extreme darkness. Due to this, it is highly recommended having the following settings enabled in your Graphics option.

Avatar – Preferences – Graphics

  • Advanced Lighting Model
  • Shadow – Sun/Moon + Projectors

Depending on the viewer, this might be named differently, or located somewhere else.

HUD

Before you will be able to join Fright games, you will need to get the Fright HUD.
Head over to the JasX Store at Quiddity
Click on the Fright Pumpkin
Unpack the contents.

This will give you a folder with a few items.

  • 3 Gestures – Be sure to activate all three before playing the game.
  • 4 Maps – Free maps that you can play Fright on.
  • Fright HUD – You need to wear this to be able to play.
  • Installation and Changelog notecards.

*To automatically enable/disable the gestures when wearing/detaching the Fright HUD, follow these short steps:

  • In your JasX folder, create a folder called onAttach
  • Inside that, create a folder called Fright
  • Put the three gestures in this folder.

Go ahead and attach the JasX HUD, Fright HUD and enable the gestures if you haven’t already.

FINDING GAMES

  1. You can check the Official Fright group, and see if any games are being advertised.
    1. Paste this in Second Life and join the group:
      secondlife:///app/group/603f7620-008c-9970-797e-acc24d70c2fd/about
  2. Host your own game.
    1. Check out the Fright Hosting guide for more information.

After finding a game, click the TOME (Pictured) and you will automatically be added. You will notice it getting dark and a flashlight will automatically attach.

  • Depending on the map, the TOME can be a book, computer screen or sci-fi terminal.
    • The hover text above it looks similar for all of it.

FRIGHT HUD

Settings

You will need to change some settings when you first attach the HUD to make sure you are set up as you wish to play. Click the Settings option on your HUD:

  • Toggle Penis/Vagina – Set this to the bits you have.
  • Toggle Adult – It allows adult animations and traps to play if you have it On.
  • Toggle Escape – If you are caught by another player, this determines if you have to wait for them to stop the capture.
  • Website – Takes you to the official fright website.

Detailed explanation of the HUD:

  • Protection Level – This is currently what your protection is set at.
    • Protected – No one can catch you without a prop, or being a hunter.
    • Partially Protected – Same as above, but you have lost some clothing.
    • Vulnerable – Anyone can catch you without needing a prop.
  • Flashlight – The current flashlight you are holding. Also can be clicked to turn it on/off. (More about this later)
  • Prop/Amount of uses – The current prop you are holding and the amount of times it can be used before losing it. (More about this later)
  • Settings – Change your adult, sex and escape settings. (More about this below)
  • Trapped – You cannot currently move and have to wait for the bar to disappear.
    • This can be due to catching someone, getting caught yourself, walking into a trap, etc.
  • Invulnerable – No one can currently catch you.
    • This often happens right after a trap has ended or you got up after being caught.
  • Prop Cooldown – You cannot use the current prop until this bar disappears.
  • Premium Prop Cooldown – You can’t use another premium prop until this bar disappears.
  • Stamina – How long you can run for.
  • Hunter eyes – If you have these eyes on your HUD it means you can catch anyone without the need of a prop.
    • You will also have red night vision, so perfect to sneak up to someone.

End Pounce – When you have caught someone and the trapped bar has disappeared for you, you can click this button to let your target go free.

CONTROLS

Detailed explanation:

  • Move keys – Normal moving around with WASD
    • Double-tapping W will make you run, but you need to keep your stamina in mind.
  • Flashlight – Turns your flashlight on and off.
  • Standard Prop – If you are currently carrying a prop, press G to activate it.
  • Premium Prop – If you have a premium prop, Q will activate it.
  • Action – Allows you to:
    • Open doors
    • Pick up props
    • Interact with items around a map
    • Catch someone that is vulnerable
    • Etc.

Fright can either be played in third person or mouselook, with mouselook recommended.

GAME MODES

Depending what type of game it is, you might have a different objective.

  • Scavenger Mode
    • A treasure will spawn at a random location on the map. Find it and bring it back to the TOME.
  • Hunter Mode
    • Similar to Scavenger Mode, but a specific player will be a hunter as well. This person can catch anyone without needing props or capturing someone with no defenses.
  • Hunter Tag
    • Similar to Scavenger and Hunter Mode, but in this case, the hunter changes to the person that was caught by one. Essentially the game Tag.
  • King of the Hill
    • Find the treasure and hold on to it as long as possible before getting caught. The person that held it the longest without losing it by the end of the game, wins.
  • Pouncematch
    • Try to catch as many people as you can within 10 minutes. Whoever caught most people, wins the game.
  • Outbreak
    • One person starts as a hunter and has to catch someone else. That person turns to a hunter as well. The last person that survives and is not caught, wins the game.

GAMEPLAY

Step by Step
See the screenshots below for a step by step how games progress.

Protection
This is how much protection you have against being caught. Think of it like armor.

  • Full and partial protection means that someone has to be a hunter or have a prop to catch you.
  • No protection means that anyone can catch you. Any player with no protection will have this icon above their head.
  • Protection can be lost by being caught, traps and other map elements.

If you have set up your outfit correctly as described in the JasX Folder Setup guide, it will be represented by how much clothing you are wearing

Maps
There are several maps that the games can be played on. Please see Fright Maps
It can take some time to get used to the map and not get lost, so take your time to explore.

Props, Traps and Flashlights
There is a lot of props to find, traps to avoid and different flashlights you can pick up for better light.
I have put all of it on separate pages to make it easier to reference.

Find all the props, food and flashlights here.

Find all the traps here.

Spectating
When spectating a game:

  • Please stand out of the way of players.
  • Detach any HUDS you are not using.

Some maps have specific spectating areas.

FINISH

When you are done playing, simply detach the HUD.

That is it. I hope this guide was helpful and that you understand how to play Fright now.
