Welcome to the guide for hosting Fright games.

This will cover everything from where to get maps, game settings and even dealing with common issues. I do recommend that you have at least played a bit of Fright before hosting a game.

With that said, this is a pretty easy process and even though this guide goes into a lot of details. You can get setup and ready for players within minutes.

MAPS

Four free maps can be found at the JasX Store in Quiddity, which comes with the Fright HUD.

LOCATIONS

To host the maps, you need to find a location that have enough space and prims.

REZZING

When you found the space you need, you need to rez the map.

Make sure to wear your Fright HUD before your rez the map. If you did not do this, the map script will need to reset before the game can be started (no need to rerez the map though).

To rez your map, you simply need to drag it to the ground from your inventory.

SETTINGS

After the map have rezzed, you will automatically be moved to the starting area with the TOME. The TOME will show a loading percentage and you will need to wait for it to finish before you can change some settings.

The map will also notify you about an auto return timer and how long it is set. This is only a timer to remind you, so if the sim’s auto-return is set higher than the default, it does not mean your map will auto return at the time it states.

When it is done loading, you have a few options you can select.

  • Join – Join yourself the current match.
  • Reset – Reset and Reload all the settings in the tome.
  • Group Management – Toggle between allowing the group that is set to manage the Settings, or just the owner.
  • Invite Player – Invite players manually by name or range.
  • Blacklist Player – Prevent a player that is currently not playing from joining the game.
  • Open Invite – Toggle between allowing anyone to click to join. If it is closed, you have to manually invite players.
  • Ruleset – The type of game to play. (More Below)
  • GameLength – Set how long the game last before it ends.

Ruleset – There is several game types that can be played.

  • Scavenger Mode – Find the treasure and return it to the Tome.
  • Hunter Mode – Similar to Scavenger Mode, but a specific player is also set as the hunter for the full length of the game.
  • Hunter Tag – Similar to Hunter Mode, but the hunter changes to the person they catch.
  • King of the Hill – The person that holds the treasure the longest at the end of the game, wins.
  • Pouncematch – The person that have caught the most players by the end of the 10 minute game, wins.
  • Outbreak – One person starts as the hunter and each person they catch turns into a hunter. The last person that is not a hunter, wins the game.

If you are unsure what game mode to pick, select Hunter Tag. It is by far the most popular ruleset.

ADVERTISING

Fright needs to have a few people to play the game. Unless you have a group or a lot of friends willing to play, you would want to advertise it to other players in the community.

To do so, you can post a message in the following groups.
Fright Group – This group is specifically for Fright Games.
Paste this in Second Life and join the group: secondlife:///app/group/603f7620-008c-9970-797e-acc24d70c2fd/about
JasX Group – This group is for JasX games in general, but you are welcome to put the game link in here as well.
Paste this in Second Life and join the group: secondlife:///app/group/6ff2300b-8199-518b-c5be-5be5d864fe1f/about

The message you want to post is usually in this format:
Map, Game Mode, Location

For example, if you are hosting the Frightwood Academy map, playing the Hunter Tag ruleset, at Quiddity, you want to post something like this:
Frightwood Academy, Hunter Tag, http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Quiddity/137/124/1501

This will allow anyone that wish to join to see what you are playing and where.

STARTING

  1. When a few people have joined the game, you can select the TOME and click Start Game.
  2. This will move everyone to the TOME automatically.
  3. When the game is over based on the Ruleset, everyone will be moved back to the TOME and can join the game again.
  4. As soon as you are ready again, click Start Game

ISSUES

Sometimes issues happen, either due to an issue on the map or Second Life lagging.

1 – One of the more common issues that you will see has a warning for it when you rez a map. When walking around, at some points you might be walking against something that looks like an invisible wall, even though it looks like you should be able to go there.

This is due to the physics collision not working correctly when items are rezzed.

If anyone reports this issue, simply right click the object/area that it is happening and it will immediately work again. This is only needed to be done once per map rez and does not always happen.

2 – Another issue that might happen is if the treasure is stuck inside an object. If this happens, cam to where the treasure is and simply move it with the edit tools in an open area so that someone can pick it up. As an extra step, you can see who the creator is of the map and report the issue to them.

3 – Last but not least, it can happen that the game crashes. If you receive a script error regarding that, please select the TOME and End Game, then select Reset.

ENDING

When you are done hosting and wish to end the game, make sure it is the end of the game  and no one is playing. If you do not, props and traps will be littered around the map.

After this, you want to make sure you clean up everything and depending on the type of map, you can do it in one of two ways.

  • If it does not have a rezzer, right click and edit a section, then drag your selection across the whole map and delete it. Make sure to cam around to check if you deleted all of it.
  • If the map does have a rezzer, click the rezzing unit and select Derez. This should automatically delete the whole map.

FINAL

That is it.
